Benedicts' beat Zahira the Champions of 2007 Futsal Challenge.
Zahira, the first ever SriLankaSports.com–Pro Sport Futsal Challenge - Under 19 Schools Football (Futsal) Champions 2007 in the history of Sri Lankan Schools Football was beaten by St. Benedicts' College, Colombo. The 2008 Champions Benedicts' beat Zahira - 1 goal to nil (1-0).
This two day event was held on 5th and 6th July on Astro Turf at Reid Avenue, Colombo 07. Sri LankaSports.com–Pro Sport Futsal Challenge 2008 was conducted under the supervision of Football Federation of Sri Lanka (FFSL) in association with the Sri Lanka Schools’ Football Association (SLSFA). The tournament was played for Cup, Plate and Bowl Championships.
The inaugural Sri LankaSports.com–Pro Sport Futsal Challenge was held in the year 2007 created history as the first ever Under 19 Futsal tournament in Sri Lanka with the participation of the top 24 soccer playing schools in the island.
Zahira College, Colombo crowned as the winners of the “Sri LankaSports.com–Pro Sport Futsal Challenge 2007" walked away at Astro Turf (Artificial Hockey Grounds) at Reid Avenue, Colombo. It was definitely a tremendous display of Futsal by Zahira College, Colombo beating another competent St. Peters' College - 3 goals to nil (3-0) in the Cup finals to win the Cup Championship.
Futsal is the official indoor version of FIFA and is a five-a-side soccer game played on a small field roughly the size of a basketball court.
M. Fazal (14) of Zahira was awarded the Most Valuable Player of the Tournament 2008.
