
1 out of 3 footballer was a Zahirian at this year's Festival of Football 2009 organised by the Sri Lanka Football Association of UK.
Zahira College, Colombo fielded two teams Zahira MAROONS and GREEN.
Zahira GREENS lost to Hameedia Al Husseini 1-0, Drew with Dharmaraja and beat Joseph Vaz 0-2 (Rifky Zaheer and Irshad Issak each scored a goal) to get into the Quarter Finals. At the Quarters Zahira GREEN got knocked out by Christian School 2-0.
Zahira MAROONS beat Holy Cross 1-2 (Shiyam Niyas and Masoon Mahroof each scored a goal), convincingly beat Royal 0-3 (again Shiyam Niyas, Sajid Ibrahim and Reezan Rameez each scored a goal), drew with St. Joseph's and lost to Sri Lanka (so-called Gunasinghepura MV) 0-3 to get into the Quarter Finals. At the Quarters Zahira MAROONS beat St. Lucias 0-1 (Masoon Mahroof scored the winning goal) and went into the Semi Finals. In Semis Zahira MAROONS lost to Hameedia Al Husseini in penalty shoot-out.
After losing in the Cup Semi Final Zahira MAROONS went on to play in the Plate Finals. Zahira MAROONS lost to Christian School (also beat Zahira GREEN in the Quarters) 1-4 (Reezan Rameez scored the only goal).
Sri Lanka (so-called Gunasinghepura MV) beat Hameedia Al Husseini to win the Cup.
