First ever day and night six-a-side cricket tournament to be organised by Zahira College, Colombo OBA Qatar.

A ground breaking project off to a start

The construction of the ZahiraCollege, College, Colombo - Old Boys' Association Colombo, Swimming Pool got off to a start on Wednesday, 13th January 2010 at the College Premises with the Ground Breaking Ceremony.

His Excellency Fawzi Gohar the Ambassador for Egypt was the Chief Guest.

The Guests of Honour were Mr Kadry Rahmy Administration and Finance Attache of the Egyptian Embassy,

Haji Omar (Chairman Brandix Gropup of Companies ),

Mr Ifthikar Ahamed (Chairman Allied Trading Co.)

Mr Mawzoon (UK Electricals),

Mr Nawaz Caffoor (Chairman of Maradana Mosque and Member Board of Governors of Zahira College),

Mr Rizmi Reyal (Managing Director of Traveller Global),

Mr Anura de Silva Deputy CEO of Football Federation representing

Mr Manilal Fernando Chairman of Holcim Ltd.., and

Mr Afzal Sattar.

A Special Dua was recited by Moulavi As-sheik Arkam NoorAmith (Darul Uloom al Islamiya of South Africa prior to cutting the first sod.

The Chairman of Board of Governors and President of the Old Boys Association Mr. Fouzul Hameed addressed the gathering said its another historic event and requested the co-operation of all Old Boys, Well Wishers, Staff and students of the College to support in completing the pool. Mr T.K.Azoor Principal in hjis address said that he would pledge to make available substantial donation from the students through their parents..

A model of the Swimming Pool complex was unveiled by the Chief Guest His Excellency Fawzi Gohar. at the request of the Chairman of Board of Governors and President of the OBA Mr Fouzul Hameed and Chairman of the Swimming Pool Committee Mr Jisthy Fawmey.

The Swimming Pool project has been initiated by the Old Boys Association of Zahira College and is being handled by a special committee under the leadership of Mr. Jisthy Fawmey with Mr Alavi Mukthar functioning as the Secretary and Mr Hilal Sanoon as Treasurer.

The Vote of Thanks was proposed by Master Thaha Adamjee a College Student.
